There’s a new feature in QuickBooks Pro 2010 that allows you to attach documents to customers, vendors, general journal entries, and many other screens. For my company information, I attached my tax ID paper from the IRS for convenience.

Another way to make good use of attachments would be to upload the W-9 form that Christine Kelly spoke about in her most recent blog regarding issuing 1099s. For each vendor, upload the completed W-9 so that in January when the 1099 forms are due you have the paperwork in an easy to find location.

One thing I am not sure of, however, is if the accountant’s copy would still allow an accountant to access the attachments. I have not tested that out yet.
